FLAGPOLE ILLUMINATION BEACONS

Flagpole Lighting with the Beacon®

American flags are in every residential neighborhood and commercial corridor across our country. Global Flags Unlimited, LLC offers multiple patented Beacon® ecologically sensitive LED downlights and LED spotlights to show Old Glory day and night proudly.

One of the most common uses for flood and spotlights is lighting the U.S. flag. However, there are guidelines. The U.S. Flag Code, which went into effect in 1923 and was amended in 1942, guides how to show respect for the flag and the display and use of the flag by citizens outside of the military and government.

The Flag Code states that you should only fly the flag between sunrise and sunset on stationary flagstaffs or poles. If the flag is displayed 24 hours a day, it must be lit at all times, no matter the direction or lack of wind.

You may choose to go with hard-wiring AC or DC if electrical is readily available.  However, if that is not an option or choice, then solar flagpole lighting is for you. Whether you need to light your 100’+ commercial flagpole or your 20′ telescoping flagpole, we’ve got a solution for you.  We offer the largest selection of night sky-friendly Beacon® Flagpole Lighting in the industry and have an excellent Beacon® flagpole lighting solution for every customer’s needs. We have the largest directional downlight selection of both electric and solar flagpole lights from which to choose. They come in all different styles, colors, and sizes. Get what works best for you!

Benefits of Beacon® LED directional down-lights:

• Reduce Light Pollution

• Appropriate outdoor fixtures for lighting the American flag after dark

• Provide the bright light required by the flag code

• Less than half the power consumption of comparable floodlights for excellent energy cost savings

Several essential correlated factors go into lighting a flag, including flagpole height, beam spread, and ambient light.

Check out these guidelines for Ground Based Flagpole Lighting:

15ʹ poles require a spot beam spread (20˚) and approximately 1600 lumens

20ʹ poles require a spot beam spread (35˚-60˚) and 7200-7700 lumens

25ʹ poles require a spot beam spread (35˚-60˚) and 10,800-27,400 lumens

Ambient light is the general overall light level in any given area. A high-output LED ground-mounted floodlight would be needed to counter brighter surroundings in a well-lit city or neighborhood (high ambient light). Because the Flagpole Beacon® is located at the flag instead of at ground level, the distance to the flag is reduced, and the light needed is also reduced. With the Flagpole Beacon®, the light required to illuminate the flag and overcome ambient light is much lower. Therefore, electrical power consumption is massively reduced.

With the Flagpole Beacon®, you don’t have to worry about any of that. Because the light source is closest to the flag and rotates with it, always lighting the flag. With the Beacon® Plus you can light large flags completely and all flags even when the wind dies down.
