THE BEACON

The patented Beacon is hand-made by experts in our Acworth, GA facility and built for lasting performance. It uses energy-efficient, long-life LED bulbs that minimize maintenance while properly illuminating the U.S. flag atnight. Designed to reduce light pollution, the Beacon becomes DarkSky approved when paired with its optional visor, ensuring your flag flies proudly and responsibly after dark.

The Beacon Plus

Our patented Beacon Plus package enhances visibility by adding two vertically-pointed 2-watt bulbs, keeping your flag brilliantly illuminated even while at rest. This packaged is available for all Beacon models.

Solar Power Packages

The Solar Power Package provides everything you need to power your Beacon (sold separately), including a solar power panel, battery pack, controller, and pole mount delivering brilliant flag illumination without the added energy costs.

DakrSky Approved Visor

Add the Beacon Visor to transform the Beacon into a DarkSky Approved lighting solution, helping reduce light pollution while maintaining powerful flag illumination.

THE BEACON FLAGPOLE
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the input voltage?
Beacon lighting systems can be powered by either 120V AC or 12V DC, offering flexibility for commercial installations.

Is it solar compatible?
The Beacon is compatible with 12V DC solar power systems, providing a reliable solution for off-grid locations without fixed electrical infrastructure.

Where is the driver located?
The electrical driver and transformer are integrated within the Beacon lighting unit, simplifying installation and keeping components protected within the lighting assembly.

How much “extra” wire is provided?
Beacon systems ship with a full wiring kit tailored to the flagpole’s height, including an extra 10’ for site power tie-in.

What are the maximum flagpole top-diameter limitations for each Beacon type?
Beacon housing sizes are engineered for specific flagpole top diameters. External halyard models accommodate diameters up to 5.5″ (Standard) or 7.5″ (Heavy Duty). Internal halyard variants support up to 7.5″ diameters for winch-operated systems and up to 4″ for cam-cleat configurations.

How does it affect wind load?
The Beacon integrates seamless illumination into a lightweight, aerodynamic design that replaces the standard flagpole truck. By maintaining a nominal weight and low-drag profile, it provides a superior lighting solution without compromising the pole’s original wind load rating.

Is it compatible with internal halyard flagpoles?
The Beacon is available in multiple variants to accommodate nearly all internal halyard flagpoles, including cam-cleat and winch systems, while maintaining completely unobstructed halyard operation.

What is the spindle size?
Beacons feature an industry-standard 1-1/4″ NPT threaded spindle. This configuration ensures maximum compatibility and a secure, threaded connection with most commercial-grade flagpole trucks and mounting hardware.

Is DarkSky approved?
To meet DarkSky requirements, the Beacon must be specified with an integrated visor. This shielding minimizes upward luminous flux and high-angle glare, effectively reducing light trespass and ensuring compliance with light pollution ordinances. ou can review the approved configuration on our DarkSky product page.

What is the light color temperature?
Beacons operate at 3000K, providing a warm-neutral light that is ideal for maximizing color vibrance on textile flag surfaces. This temperature offers a professional aesthetic while minimizing blue-light emissions. Alternative color temperatures are available for custom specifications.

What is the lumen output?
The Beacon delivers between 640 and 1,900 lumens, varying by model and power source. For precise photometric data and output ratings for a specific configuration, please refer to the individual model’s specification sheet.

How does the system prevent the power wire from twisting or tangling with the halyard?

The Beacon utilizes a patented integrated 359° stop that allows the light to rotate in perfect synchronization with the flag. By separating the electrical lead from the mechanical halyard path, the design ensures that the wire never interferes with the flag’s operation, maintaining long-term wiring integrity even in high-wind environments.

Can a Beacon be added onto an existing pole?
Beacons can be retrofitted to replace the existing top hardware on the vast majority of flagpoles depending on the pole’s top diameter and halyard system. Review the model’s documentation to confirm compatibility with existing poles.

Can the LED bulbs be replaced?
The Beacon utilizes high-efficiency LED modules engineered for a long service life, typically exceeding 50,000 to 100,000 hours. While the solid-state design eliminates the need for frequent bulb changes, the modules are field-replaceable. Access is gained via the removable housing at the pole top, as detailed in the model-specific installation manual.

Is a licensed electrician required for installation?

The Beacon is a factory-sealed, pre-wired fixture, meaning no electrical terminations are required at the top of the flagpole. The integrated lead is simply routed through the pole to the base for connection. While a licensed electrician is typically required to connect the lead to a 120V AC power source at ground level, our 12V DC systems are low-voltage ‘plug-and-play’ and may not require an electrician for installation. Always verify requirements with local building codes.

What is the warranty for the Flagpole Beacon?

The Beacon is covered by a one-year limited warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the date of shipment. To maintain coverage, the unit must be installed in accordance with local codes and all provided instructions.
